Schools Ministry Billericay (SMB)
Schools Ministry Billericay (SMB) was established in 1992 to support the local schools in delivering exciting and relevant Religious Education programmes to the children and young people in our town. It is part of the work of 'Churches Together in Billericay', and is run in conjunction with Viz-A-Viz, via Schools Ministry Billericay Management Board.

The Schools Ministry Billericay Workers
Jane Andrews was employed in September 2005 in association with Viz-A-Viz Ministries. She has 8 years schools work experience, on a voluntary basis and she has been involved as a church based children’s worker since 1992. She now helps lead a team of nearly 20 volunteers working in both Primary and Secondary schools. Jane is married with two sons.
Sue Reader was also employed in September 2005 in association with Viz-A-Viz Ministries. She has taught Junior Jazzercise (a children’s dance class) for the last 10 years and continues to teach local school children. She was also a volunteer with SMB before being employed. She now helps lead the team of volunteers with Jane. Sue is also married with two sons.
Sue and Jane’s vision for SMB They aim to bring the reality of Jesus to the young people in the schools and create bridges between those schools and the local churches.
They achieve this in a variety of ways, in all 16 schools in Billericay, using assemblies, lessons and lunch time clubs. These include Alf (About Life and Faith), Bible Explorer, Youth Alpha and whatever God inspires them with.
Many thanks for your support Sue Reader and Jane Andrews Schools workers - Billericay.

SMB NEWS
Summer Term 2006 News Letter
As we (Sue, Jane and SMB’s Volunteers) look forward to an exciting summer we give thanks to The Lord for He is good, His love endures forever!
The opportunities to take the good news of the gospel into our schools increase by the week. God has surely given us the favour of the people. Many thanks to those of you who have so faithfully supported us in prayer (and in many other ways) during these past two terms. The Kingdom is being extended in this place because of your commitment.
Jane and Sue successfully ‘made the split’ last term and are now covering a greater number of appointments, working as individuals as well as a ‘double-act’. We have been so encouraged by the positive response we have had, from the schools, to the material we are delivering. Praise the Lord for His inspiration and equipping. May it ever continue.

During the Spring term we were able to deliver at least 2 assemblies each, in 14 of our 16 schools with themes including ‘Perseverance’, ‘Mothers’ and ‘Looking after Ourselves’. This number increases when the Easter assemblies are included where, for example, Gary Bott and Mark Pape were able to deliver Easter assemblies to 5 different year groups at Mayflower High School. Mayflower’s bookings have been a particular thrill for us all as it has been 3 years since anyone involved with SMB has been invited to deliver their Easter assemblies.
Bookings are already rolling in for this term with our diaries filling up fast.

On April 27th, Sue and Jane will be attending a ‘Multi-Agency Knowledge Sharing Conference’ with all the Head Teachers from Billericay schools. On May 10th and 11th, Gary and Mark will be accompanying Mayflower yr 7’s on trips to Canterbury Cathedral. On Sat. June 17th, Jane and Sue will be teaching a seminar on ‘Reaching our young people for Jesus through our Local Schools at the Eastern Baptists Association Assembly.
Please pray for good relationships and God’s favour for all these opportunities.

Lesson news has been very exciting regarding the hoped for bookings at Mayflower (thankyou to all those who faithfully prayed for this). We were invited to cover 10 lessons with year 11’s where we were able to share testimonies of how God had impacted our lives. This prompted much animated discussion and lively debate. There are plans for us to deliver the same sort of lessons to years 7 and 9 though we have no firm dates as yet (again, please pray for this).
We plan to offer Billericay School the same sort of lesson format for this term.
Major Thanks
This term’s 1st major ‘thank-you’ goes to the amazing ladies from the Buttsbury Infants and Juniors prayer support groups for their fabulous fund-raising, jacket potato lunch. The event was so popular the ladies only just had enough potatoes. This year they raised over 300 pounds, which will go towards supplying ‘It’s your Move’ books for our towns rising year 7’s.
We also want to thank all the lovely people who baked delicious cakes for the Charity table-top sale at the Mayflower hall, and the kind ladies who manned the table. We were able to raise awareness of the work of SMB as well as raising funds. This added nearly 200 pounds, to our funds and probably a few to our waist-lines also.
And last but not least we want to say two HUGE thank-yous to our retiring Chairman, Paul Hinkley for his leadership over many years and our line-manager from Viz-a-Viz, Simon Parish for his guidance, support and wisdom. God has called Paul and Simon along new paths at this time and we wish them both His absolute best for the future. Pray with us for The Lord’s will as we seek to replace these two fine men.

Sue successfully presented OT BX at Quilters Juniors and they are now showing an interest in including NT for their year 6’s next year. Jane presented NT BX at South Green Juniors which has subsequently led to one young man getting permission from his non-church-going parents to attend the local church. Praise God for the encouragement of ‘visible’ fruit. Anita Morgan has bookings for OT and NT at Buttsbury Juniors for this term and although we have yet to finalise firm bookings for Brightside and Sunnymede Juniors we know they are keen to put dates in the diary.

Our e:merge groups have developed well this term with Jill Sinclair (Youth Leader at Billericay Methodists) being involved at Mayflower alongside Sue, Kirby and Mark. Jane, Kirby and Mark continue to lead at Billericay. Growth has been steady and encouraging. Please pray that many young people from our e:merge groups are able to attend SOLID this year.

ALF news this term has been very exciting. Angela Wood from Christchurch and Linda Norton, Childrens Worker from Billericay Baptist Church, continue to do a sterling job delivering a lunchtime club at Buttsbury Juniors, with numbers sometimes reaching 30+.
Sue and Jane, with help from Linda and Kirby Lockert (a Girls Brigade ‘year-out’ volunteer) began a new ALF club at Brightside in February. After wondering whether the new group would attract many attendees, we were overwhelmed when 71 students turned up for the first meeting. During our last meeting we had 55 attendees and 34 of them made a decision to follow Jesus. Isn’t it interesting that we pray ‘that none shall be lost’ and then we can be so surprised when Our Gracious Lord answers our prayers.
May all the glory go to Him.
We would love to start new ALF clubs in the other primary schools in our town. Please pray that God would raise up the workers to go out and bring in this rich harvest and that He would lead these new believers across the ‘bridge’ between school and church.

Dates for the Diary
